The Swine Flu Epidemic Still Going On
By: Purisha Taylor
The swine flu, also known
as the H1N1 virus, affects
both humans and pigs, much
like the bird flu a few years
back only affecting humans
and birds.
First emerging in April of
2008 and has affected around
one million Americans and
has killed about 500, does not
seem to be fading.
The swine flu symptoms
are those similar to the annual
winter flu such as body
aches, fever, vomiting and
sore throat.
Many schools have shut
down in the U.S. Especially
in the Washington area because
of some reported cases
of the flu and some say Oregon
schools are next.
Swine flu is spread through
coughing and sneezing; so if
you are sick stay home and
avoid going to public places
because the flu can be very
easily spread.
Students just need to be
aware of this epidemic and to
also try and remember to
wash your hands many times
throughout the day
